Hey, there. My name is Alessandro, but you can call me Al.
I am a screenwriter/writer. I have some professional credits in acting and production, but I am still working on my first writing credit.
I have the training, you know. I graduated from a Film School in Italy in 2006. I studied direction, production and screenwriting. I know, 2006 is a long time ago. In the meantime, I focused on theatre, dance, music and also on the job-that-pays-the-rent (digital marketing). Oh, and I graduated from Drama School in 2012. I’m professionally trained in film and TV production, direction, writing and acting. But an academy doesn’t make the show biz professional!
I have always been fascinated by storytelling and my dream is to be able to run a TV show and star in it. You know, like Rachel Bloom.
I think that being a Show Runner is the ultimate creative job: going from idea to a script, creating a universe around your story, working on a bible, getting writers together, developing a long-form story, giving input to the production, impacting the final vision every step of the way… isn’t that extremely fascinating? It definitely is for me.
After moving to London in 2014, inspired by the international flavour of this city (at least, pre-Brexit…), I decided to pick screenwriting and acting back up. Going to classes, read once again those five million books I have on the subject, take the dust off my film school notes, subscribe to a couple of online courses and just run with it. Two months later, my first TV pilot draft was done.
Acting wise, after starring as Kostya in an Amateur Theatre production of The Seagull, I found a fantastic group of teacher and actors, called Salon: Collective, where I trained for a year on Meisner Technique, something I didn’t do at Drama School. It was an eye-opener.
I am always looking for ways to improve my writing and acting. But more importantly, I am trying to put myself, my experiences in dance, music, live entertainment, theatre, stage production, teaching, marketing, communication, digital, business and fashion into my stories.
As a human being, I am deeply moved by civil rights movements. I am a feminist, an ally in the LGBTQQIAP2 community, I support Black Lives Matter, I question extreme capitalism and I am against violence. Human rights come first and I want to convey that into my writing.
My biggest TV inspirations come from many sources. I can say that Buffy The Vampire Slayer impacted me in a way that no other series did. But Quantum Leap also contributed to form a good part of what I think may be good, positive, engaging storytelling.
Still, I have to mention some other series that are incredibly important for me: X-Files, Gilmore Girls, Star Trek The Next Generation, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Angel, Scrubs, Community. Oh, and Adventure Time.
PS: You may notice there are lots of coffee pics on the website. That’s because I am an espresso fanatic and also because they have that hipster feeling that is so fab right now.
